When you arrive at the Newberry, you will need to put any outer
garments, umbrellas, newspapers, food, briefcases, backpacks, large
handbags, and other personal belongings in a locker on the 1st floor.
(You need a quarter to rent a locker, but your quarter is refunded when
you leave.) You can bring in some notes, pens/pencils, digital camera,
and a laptop. (See
their digital camera policy.) You might also
want to bring a sweater-- sometimes the reading rooms are a bit chilly.
You will need to go to the 3rd floor to get your library card-- bring
a
valid photo ID with a current address (driver's license is perfect)
in
order to get a 1-year card.
Readers must be at least 16 years old or a junior in high
school.
Research topics supported by the Newberry collections include Genealogy, Local History, and Western Americana.

(formerly Finch) is kept at Lake Forest's Donnelley & Lee Library
Reference desk.
You may also search their Serials Holdings

Some journals may only be available online, and therefore only
available to Rosalind Franklin students.
At the Rosalind Franklin Library:
Be sure to do all online research before going to the Rosalind Franklin
Library. The computers there are password protected.
Enter via the North entrance. The security guard will buzz you in after which you will need to sign-in using Lake Forest College as your "designation."
Purchase a Smart Card from the machine to your right ($2 for the card + 8 copies; 17 copies per dollar thereafter). The machine is opposite the circulation desk.
Go up the stairs to the left of the security guard, then straight ahead to the library.
