Some recommended searches to find books
Use RefGrab-It to add book citations to your bibliography:
  1. In RefWorks, click Tools, and select RefGrab-It.
  2. Follow the directions to install RefGrab-It in your browser.
  3. Perform a search in the library catalog.
  4. Click "RefGrab-It"
  5. Click "Other Info"
  6. Click "Books."

Journal and Database Recommendations for Finding Articles
  • Use links from the library website to gain access to the databases, including this page and library.lakeforest.edu/journals/a-z.html.
  • Use the terms suggested for catalog searches above.
  • Combine terms with AND to get fewer search results, like:
       “popular culture” AND feminism
    Combine terms with OR to get more results, like:
        feminism OR women
  • Export citations to RefWorks.
  • Click the "Find It" button to access the complete article when the full text of the article is not included in the database. If the Find It button is not available, search the title of the journal (not the title of the article) by clicking the "Journals" link on the library home page.

Academic Universe - Lexis-Nexis (news articles, many from intellectual sources such as The New York Times and the Economist).
To search ethnic news articles in Lexis:

  • In the upper left area of the screen, click the "Sources" tab.
  • In the light blue "Find a Source" box in the upper right area of the screen, enter "ethnic."
  • About half way down the screen on the left, check the boxes for "Ethnic Publications" and "Ethnic News."
  • Over on the right side of the screen, click the red button that says "Ok - Continue."
  • Enter search terms.
*Lexis-Nexis Hint* Below the search terms box click "Show options to search specific document sections" and select "HLEAD," then type in your search term and click "Add to Search." This will focus your search on articles that have your search terms mentioned in the title or lead paragraph of the article.

JSTOR (scholarly articles from a limited number of journals, all articles at least 2 years old)

Project Muse (all scholarly articles from selected journals, mostly literary subjects)
